The worship leader led us through this old song during CG last night. Am so thankful to be reminded of His grace and His abundant providence again, even through the remembering of what this name of God says about Him...
AMY GRANT lyrics - "El Shaddai"
(Michael Card & John Thompson)
[Chorus:]
El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai [means "God Almighty, God Almighty"]
El-Elyon na Adonai [means "God in the highest, Oh, Lord"]
Age to age, You're still the same
By the power of the name.
El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai
Erkamka na Adonai [means "We will love You, Oh, Lord"]
We will praise and lift You high
El-Shaddai
Through Your love
And through the ram,
You saved the son
Of Abraham.
Through the power
Of Your hand,
Turned the sea
Into dry land.
To the outcast
On her knees,
You were the God
Who really sees.
And by Your might,
You set Your children free.
[Chorus]
Through the years,
You made it clear,
That the time of Christ
Was near,
Though the people
Couldn't see
What Messiah ought to be.
Though Your Word
Contained the plan,
They just could not understand,
Your most awesome work was done
Though the frailty of Your son.
[Chorus]

Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God. Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant - not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
- 2 Corinthians 3:4-6 (NIV)

"A thing done slowly together is better than a thing done quickly alone".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbour as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

Thou dwellest among enemies, and art assaulted on the right hand and on the left.[2]
If there thou defend not thyself on every side with the shield of patience, thou wilt not be long without a wound.
Moreover, if thou fix not thy heart on Me with a sincere willingness to suffer all things for Me, thou canst not bear the heat of this combat, not attain to the palm of the sanits in bliss.
Thou oughtest therefore manfully to go through all, and to secure a strong hand against whatever withstandeth thee.
For to him that overcometh is manna given, but for the indolent there remains much misery.
2. If thou seek rest in this world, how wilt thou then attain to the everlasting rest?
Dispose not thyself for much rest, but for much patience.
Seek true peace not in earth, but in heaven; not in men, nor in any other creature, but in God alone.
For the love of God thou oughtest cheerfully to undergo all things, that is to say, all labor, grief, temptation, vexation, anxiety, necessity, infirmity, injury, detraction, reproof, humiliation, shame, correction and contempt.
These help to virtue; these are the trial of a novice in Christ; these frame the heavenly crown.
I will give an everlasting reward for a short labor, and infinite glory for transitory shame.
3. Thinkest thou that thou shalt always have spiritual consolations at will?
My saints had not so, but they had many afflictions, and sundry temptations, and great discomforts.
But in all these they did bear themselves up patiently, and trusted rather in God than in themselvesm knowing that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared to future glory.[3]
Wilt thou have that at once, which others, after many tears and great labors, have hardly obtained?
Wait for the Lord, behave thyself manfully, and be of good courage;[4] do not despair, do not leave thy place, but steadily offer both body and soul for the glory of God.
I will reward thee in most plentiful manner, I will be with thee in every tribulation.

The Lord is my programmer, I shall not crash,
He installed His software on the hard disk of my heart,
All of His commands are user friendly,
His directory moves me to the right choices for His name's sake.
Even though I scroll through the problems of life,
I will fear no bugs, for You are my backup,
Your password protects me,
You prepare a menu before me in the presence of my enemies,
Your help is only a key away.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
And my file will be merged with His and saved forever.

Saturday (24 Feb)
After a good time of prayer-walking around the land on last Saturday's afternoon, went to my friend's place to eat her parents' famous "po-piah". It's a family hand-me-down recipe, apparently the grandfather specifically gave the ingredients and the method of preparing the dish. Some more, my friend's parents chose to use hand-made popiah skin, instead of the usual factory made skin. It makes a big difference in the taste and texture... [drool]
Unfortunately, I only walloped a roll, as I had a dinner appointment with my 2 other friends at Adam Road Food Center later that evening. Saved my stomach for more room to fill up with mutton soup, mutton "tulang", satay, roti john, "Apit" kopi-tarek and Baron's Beer. Din get to order the "la-las" as the seafood store was not open :< Still, I went home pretty intoxicated with good food and great company, a very happy man indeed *hiccup*.

Sunday (25 Feb)
After church, went to the newly renovated food-court besides my church. They had a new stall that does Korean hot-plate dishes. Tried the saba fish~ not that bad actually. My friend tried the spicy korean pork thingie, but she said not as authentic as the one they sell in Korea. Still, I was satisfied since I got a well-balanced diet - satisfied my seafood craving from not getting my "la-las" the previous night.
In the evening, another friend drove me to Chomps Chomps Hawker center, near Serangoon Gardens. Tried out the famous hokkien mee - absolutely delicious. The "or-lua"/oyster omelet was so-so only.* As was kinda overstuffed with food from the previous day, didn't order the extra stuff like "satay beehoon", chicken wings and the gigantic $2.50 sugar-cane juice.
After the dinner, it was still early, so my friend brought me over to Ice. A great cozy joint, where the desserts are absolutely fantastic. Slurping down the chewy chocolate ice-cream with slices of banana was simply heavenly - and I'm not even a choco-holic to boot. :D
well, with so much binging the past weekend, it's time to hit the swimming pool and the running tracks again this weekend! Keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will stay sunny this evening... :p
*As the French puts it, "comme ci comme ca"
The following points are just some points I took away from a co-worker sharing during the staff morning devotions. Now this fellow co-worker is what I called a "colorful character"**. He's the type who will start off a devotion session using a sound clip from a Dilbert cartoon episode. He loves all things to do with engineering and science, and he's someone whom we called has been born with the "knack". So on that particular morning*, he started off with introducing a book he was reading at the time, "The Pleasure of Finding Things Out" by Richard P. Feynman.
No, Feynman wasn't a great theologian scientist. In fact, he was a staunch humanist, who only believed in the goodness that Christianity brought to western civilisation through the ages. He believed Christian ethics and morality brought about an advance in western thought and stability to Western civilisation, which contributes to the advent of science. Yet, in all his years of research, he couldn't "buy" the concept of an Almighty God, because he can't proved it. I think the picture my co-worker puts forth is that Feynman was an agnostic, and not an atheist. Hey, to be an atheist, you have to believe fervently in the belief of a non-God, and that's almost faith in itself. :p
Back to the sharing, after that, my co-worker asked us a simple question, "What does a scientist do?" haha, got various people try to give their answers - we "mere mortals" just said something along the lines of "physics and chemistry lor"; the engineer in our midst gave some long answer^ involving words like "experiment" and "data". In the end, the elegant and simple answer my colleague gave was that a good scientist tries to answer "What happens when I do this?" He then elaborates how very few people do good science thesedays, because they cannot be both curious and honest about what they do and do not know.
