to all the lonely people

got this video from one of my friend's site (Danke schon, Aaron!). Am just reminded by a newspaper article that around Christmas time, usually the suicide rate goes up. There are still a lot of people who feel the blues over this festive season, and are even more saddened when they see the festivities and happiness happening around them.

Take heart my friend! You will not be lonely, even though you may be alone, for Christ is with us.

Office Christmas Lunch (24 Dec '08)

Went to Stewhaus for a scrumptious office lunch. As usual, didn't win anything in the office "blessing" draw. The fellowship was fun though, got to see a lot of the joy and pride of the new parents in office. :D

1st Level Office Reinstatement (23 Dec '08)

We need to return to the 1st level office to it original condition, as we're not renting it from next year onwards. Here are pictures of a few of us horsing around in the refurbished place a few days back...

Couldn't catch "Bedtime Stories", and didn't wanna watch "Australia", so chose to watch this instead with my siblings. Not a bad film, albeit the plot is a bit cliched, the fight sequences are good. More 3.5 than 4 for me.

Werner's Oven

Rating:★★★★
Category:Restaurants
Cuisine: European
Location:6 Upper East Coast Road #01-01/02/03 Singapore 455220
Food was homely yet fine. Tried the pork knuckles, ma ma mia! Skin is well-roasted to a crispiness that is not too oily. Goes superbly with the mustard, saurkraut and the mashed potato.

Had a Warsteiner Premium Verum-Pilsner, and it's all as the menu promised: "a smooth, rich-full bodied taste with a refreshing hop finish and no aftertaste; a clean, crisp, refreshing beer taste"

Had coffee and strudels for dessert. Strudel was just right, not too sweet. Coffee was from Santino, rich, strong-bodied taste.

on why men are just happier people

Just got this in my e-mail. Made my day! :D

--------------------------------------------------------------

WHY MEN ARE JUST HAPPIER PEOPLE......

 NICKNAMES
If Laura, Kate and Sarah go out for lunch, they will call each other
     Laura, Kate and  Sarah.
If Mike, Dave and John go out, they will affectionately refer to each
other as Fat Boy, elephant and Four-eyes.

 EATING OUT
When the bill arrives, Mike, Dave and John will each throw in $20,
even though it's only for $32.50.  None of them will have anything
smaller and none will actually admit they want change back.
When the girls get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

 MONEY
A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she  doesn't need but it's on
     sale.

 BATHROOMS
A man has seven items in his bathroom:  toothbrush and toothpaste,
shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, deodorant and a  towel ..
The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337.
A man would not be able to identify more than 20 of these  items.

 ARGUMENTS
A woman has the last word in  any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

 FUTURE
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

 SUCCESS
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

 MARRIAGE
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, but she does.

 DRESSING UP
A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the
trash, answer the phone, read a  book, and get the mail.
A man will dress up for weddings and  funerals.

 NATURAL
Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.
Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

 OFFSPRING
Ah, children.  A woman knows all about her children.  She knows about
dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods,
secret fears and hopes and dreams.
A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

 THOUGHT FOR THE  DAY
A married man should forget his mistakes.  There's no use in two people
 remembering the same thing!

SO, send this to the women who have a sense  of humor and who can handle
it ... and to the men who will enjoy reading it.

Waraku now having promotion for ladies on Monday nights till end of dec, 50% discount off the tab. So last night went out with some colleagues and ex-colleague to chill. I think I was the only guy there in the restaurant, only thorn among the roses. Good time fellowshipping and "fei-lou-shipping".

on my Carl Jr. fix (29 Nov '08)

Last Saturday, went to get my Carl Jr. fix on Saturday evening. Even though it set me back by $12 plus, it was totally worth it! I ate around 4.50ish in the early evening and didn't have hunger pangs till the next day afternoon... mmmm MMMM!

Thoughtful but useless Christmas gift

hey hey, instead of giving your colleagues a photo frame or a mug for the Christmas party gift exchange, why not get him or her this totally nifty and totally "duh" Christmas gift? :D

on the birthday gift i didn't get for my friend...

My friend's birthday today, so went shopping on Saturday to buy him something. He's a toy car enthusiast, so needed to get him a toy car. Wanted to get him the above as a gag gift, but in the end, thought better of it. :p

Off the carpet (28 Nov '08)

Tomorrow ourcontractors will come into office to clean up the floor carpets, to put the finishing touches to our month long office move. That's why before we left office this evening, all our computers had to be off the ground. Here's how my ingenious colleague did to the thgings beneath his workspace.

Burn baby burn! (28 Nov '08)

We had too many documents to shred and had a burning party this afternoon. Turns out rubbish disposal by fire is not as easy as we thought it to be. We all emerged from the session slightly charred and dehydrated.

Lunch out at Canteen (28 Nov '08)

Our office is still in the midst of office move, so we couldn't hold our regular birthdays dedication and appreciation party in the conference room. We all adjourned to the canteen next block and had a boisterous makan session there.

We had an off-site training session away from office today. The training was on understanding self awareness and building team synergy. And of course, the whole atmosphere was relaxed and fun~

Office Ping Pong (20 Nov '08)

English translation:

Approximate english translation (I have the correct italian version which is rather different):

The sun goes down, and I can smell
curry cookin', somewhere.
How long will we have to walk
before we get home?
Will the croquettes from my favorite shop
still taste the same,
waiting for me?

Night comes down upon the earth,
and I'm hurryin' home.

They say
the ogres will be laughing next year.
And I say
let 'em laugh all they like.
I'll keep talkin' about
five or ten years in the future.
And fifty years later, If I'm still with you.

Night comes down upon the earth,
and I'm hurryin' home.

Well the rain may fall
and the storms may come
And the spears may fall.
Let's all go home.
They can't stop us.
Nobody has the right to stop us

Night comes down upon the earth,
and I'm hurryin' home.
Night around the world,
the entire world is hurrying home.
And I pray that these days will
continue for you,
forever and ever.

Lead Me To Calvary

Sang this during morning devotions. Was ministered by the lyrics. Guess my mind haven't been staying on Him for a while, and this song came as a timely reminder. MAy you be blessed by it too~

Lead Me To Calvary

King of my life, I crown Thee now,
Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary.

Chorus
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept.

Chorus
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

Let me like Mary, thru the gloom,
Come with a gift to Thee;
Show to me now the empty tomb,
Lead me to Calvary.

Chorus
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

May I be willing, Lord, to bear
Daily my cross for Thee;
Even Thy cup of grief to share,
Thou hast borne all for me.

Chorus
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.

Somaly Mam Foundation - Home

http://www.somaly.org/
The Somaly Mam Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit public charity working to end slavery. With the vision and leadership of world renowned Cambodian activist, Somaly Mam, the foundation strives to get to the root of human trafficking. The global vision will allow the activities currently in the United States and South East Asia to expand to other countries around the world.

Vision: A world where human trafficking does not exist.

The Road of Lost Innocence (2008)

Rating:★★★★
Category:Books
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs
Author:Somaly Mam
ABOUT THIS BOOK

A portion of the proceeds of this book will be donated to the Somaly Mam Foundation.

A riveting, raw, and beautiful memoir of tragedy and hope

Born in a village deep in the Cambodian forest, Somaly Mam was sold into sexual slavery by her grandfather when she was twelve years old. For the next decade she was shuttled through the brothels that make up the sprawling sex trade of Southeast Asia. Trapped in this dangerous and desperate world, she suffered the brutality and horrors of human trafficking—rape, torture, deprivation—until she managed to escape with the help of a French aid worker. Emboldened by her newfound freedom, education, and security, Somaly blossomed but remained haunted by the girls in the brothels she left behind.
Written in exquisite, spare, unflinching prose, The Road of Lost Innocence recounts the experiences of her early life and tells the story of her awakening as an activist and her harrowing and brave fight against the powerful and corrupt forces that steal the lives of these girls. She has orchestrated raids on brothels and rescued sex workers, some as young as five and six; she has built shelters, started schools, and founded an organization that has so far saved more than four thousand women and children in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. Her memoir will leave you awestruck by her tenacity and courage and will renew your faith in the power of an individual to bring about change.

To learn more about how you can help fight human trafficking, visit the foundation’s website: www.somaly.org.
