This morning wanted to go Empire Curry to try out their pratas. But they don't sell them ion the morning! :( Thankfully across the road, lies Channai house, which do sell them. The pratas are okay, the teh tarik and teh ice is a bit too sweet for my liking, and the curry is not spicy and a bit too salty. Still, it was a good breakfast ~

Little Fockers (2010)

Plot not as tightly drawn as the first two movies, but still great laughs ensue. You can really feel the tension between Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Throw in Jessica Alba for an eye-candy, and voila. My friend felt that too bad the children characters aren't much developed in the film. See for yourself.

Visitors to our new office (29 Dec '10)

Kelvin and the Cargills dropped by into our new office to take a look. Alexis and Kelvin used to work at our High Street office, thus they wanted to see some of the older staff at our new place at Playfair Road. The kids are totally excited about the amount of space they can run in. I had fun seeing Daniel and Alexis controlling their children XD.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)

Heard from most of my friends and my sister that the plot was average, so didn't have high hopes and expectations. Also one of the reasons why I delayed in so long in watching this. Was glad I managed to catch this film in 3D, cos the 3D effects really made the whole film enjoyable and makes one more immersed in the world of Narnia.

The story's pretty deep, and the soundtrack is just fantastic! Oh, it may not have the many levels of intricacies as "Inception", nor fantastic star-powers of other year-end shows. Still, this is a compelling movie, with its many uses of Christian symbols and imagery. Go watch it!

Shaw Theatres at NEX

Went to NEX to catch the Narnia film. Love the leather seats with the head head-rest, the chic design of the lobby. The popcorn wasn't as nice as Cathay's, but that's a small minus. Be definitely heading there for more shows in the future!

Went to the branch at NEX. Heard from my friend it was average; still went ahead to try it. I mean, how hard can it be to screw up fried chicken? Well, apparently this branch succeeded :p I tried the Texas sampler, where you get a chicken 1pc, a tender and a winglet. The amazing thing is the meat is totally tasteless. It looks good on the outside, super crispy when you bite in, but the meat is tasteless.

They give a biscuit ala Popeye style, but it's not as good. And on the side's menu, they have six items but you can only choose either fries or mashed potato for your side when you order the set. Not very customer-friendly, if you asks me. Probably my one and only time at Texas Chicken for the next half a year...

Was pleasantly surprised to find of my favorite Japanese actresses, Ryoko Yonekura, acting in the show. Is supposed to be a Christmas special to a Japanese remake of "Bewitched". Storyline a bit bland and fluffy, and over-the-top acting.

Kronenbourg 1664 FAP night at KPO (18 Dec '10)

A friend invited me down to her work event at KPO last Saturday night/ Lol'ed at the title, the French must be really clueless about what FAP means in the urban dictionary. Liked the Blanc better than the Kronenbourg 1664, more floral - reminds me of Hoegarden, but definitely different from the Hoe. Saw lotsa interesting people there too, but not polite to film them down :p

Lunch at NUSS Guildhouse (14 Dec '10)

We had a appreciation lunch for all those who were involved in the office move committee. The chairman took us to NUSS Guildhouse for a 2 hours lunch. Was stopped at the door, on account of me not wearing a collared shirt. Had to go wear one of their borrowed collared long-sleeved shirts. Saw quite a few other uncles also wearing the same-patterned shirt, so I was not the only one :p Food was delicious. It was great to be able to unwind a bit from all the hassle of the past two months~

Visit to Chez Phang (12 Dec '10)

Last Sunday got invited over to Jinming and Huifang's new home in the east, as well as visit their uber-cute baby girl, Ying Xuan's first-month celebration. It was super-crowded, but the food was superb! The decor at their new place was very nice. the new parents looked tired but joyful. Am happy for them ;) Congrats Jin Ming and Huifang! And welcome, Xuan xuan!

Office Move (09 - 10 Dec '10)

Finally! The big day! After 8 years at our old office at Chai Chee, we took the plunge to move out to a new office at Macpherson area. It was a trying and tiring move, as the runway from start to end was only about 2 months? But God is good, and He saw us through it all. We are still in the midst of unpacking our stuff. Hopefully, our office can be fully operational by the end of the week :) Thank you Abba!

Last night went out to celebrate the birthday dinner of my friends at Tripleone Sommerset. Never been there to have meals before. It's not that big, around two levels, you can walk the retail section in under 15 minutes. :P But the food and teh company makes a whole lot of difference ;)

Confession/ 告白 Kokuhaku (2010)

Saw the synopsis from Yahoo movies site, and read it's pretty dark. Wasn't really going to watch it, till my bro asked me along. It's a riveting morality tale, very, very dark. It's amazing how the twist and turns came unfolding, when you know the whole tale one third into the film. Roughly about 30 minutes into the show, you would know the whole gist, the 来龙去脉 is revealed.

But the character development and the twists... and the interesting cinematography, and the use of talented actors, both recognised and rising stars... Definitely not a show to be missed. Don't go if you're looking for "hahahah" moments, wait for "Go_Find_a_Psychic!" / "Magare! Spoon" at the end of Dec instead.

Charcoal Steamboat Dinner (26 Nov '10)

Yesterday celebrated my mom's lunar birthday at home. She wanted to do charcoal steamboat, so had to go home early to help start the fire. Bought brand new charcoal, but they were a bit damp, so had trouble starting up the fire. Father bought a lot of extra 料，like 金针菇， imitation crab balls* etc. Sis was a bit late, so mom waited for her. All in all, a very good dinner indeed, huat ah! 哈皮鸟日，妈德！

Tangled 3D (2010)

Disney 50th Animated feature. The trailer was quite funny, so decided to go catch it. A bit overloaded on the saccharine sweetness, with songs galore, but hey, whaddya expect, it's a Disney cartoon film. The 3D effects didn't really contribute much to the story-telling, except for the lanterns scene and the healing scene. Ending was a bit abrupt; but the creatures and side-cast are funnier than expected. No surprise scene at the end of credit rolls.

Went to attend a friend's wedding on the same evening. Had the privilege of attending the solemnization and the wedding dinner at one sitting. It was a beautiful ceremony throughout.* My friend's husband has Malaysian relatives, and his parents have overseas guests. So it did enliven the atmosphere. We nearly brought down the house with our 3rd "yum seng" toast - you know, the one wishing the couple having kids soon and living together till end of their lives. XD So congratulations, Kelvin and Faith! Viva La Marriage! and may God keep you both for the rest of your days! Remember, 1 life, no continues ;)

Baby Zephaniah welcome party (13 Nov '10)

Went to celebrate Mark's and Sue's bundle of joy party last Saturday afternoon in Clementi. It was raining cats and dogs when I got out of house, but the weather turned absolutely beautiful when I reached their place. Baby Zephaniah is such a cute baby! Just wanna sit up straight and smiles at everybody - a smart baby indeed!

FLOWERS フラワーズ (2010)

Great film, with lots of accomplished actresses depicting womanhood in Japan for three generations, from the 1930s to the present day. The director used different filming styles to depicts different eras, such as monochrome for the 1930s, and a sephia effect with soft lighting to depict other past eras, and sharp focus for the present day. Incredible details is given to the setting and background of each period. And sensitive crafting and story-telling. Love the motifs of the flowers, and the different shots of the various seasons in Japan. A must watch for all Japoholics. More for women and pensive, reflective males.*

Was contemplating to minus half a star, because it didn't exactly covered the post-WW2 era. Also, can't decide whether it's a subversive film telling women they need to have kids in order to have fulfillment. And whether it's okay for women to get pregnant outside of marriage.

Bbbuuuuuuttt...

at the end of the day, I think I think too much along the negative. The woman who chose to have the child didn't go for abortion, and I'm for pro-life. Certain things in life aren't for me to judge. People make mistakes, Shit happens. The most important is to not run away, and realize God is still in control.

Heard this movie got pretty good reviews, so decided to go and watched it. Din enjoy it. Not because the film is bad or anything, the actors' and actresses' acting are pretty alright. Just that there wasn't substantial plot or character development, so that made the story a bit loopy. I can't decide whether the protagonist is innocent and naive, or immoral, or amoral. Also, it portrayed the rich as incredibly selfish and ruthless. Don't watch this unless you plan to spoil your weekend.

Was expecting another cliche supervillain-turned-hero cliche animation; but turns out much more enjoyable than expected. The humor is surprisingly well spaced out throughout the film, and it's entertaining yet "kids-friendly" enough to amuse children.

Only gripe is that the staff at Woodlands Cathay joint turns on the light immediately after the credits roll. I stayed till the end of the credit roll to watch another small scene with Fish and Bernard, while the rest of the moviegoers have left the theater.

Making Props for Christmas Play (07 Nov '10)

Yeaps, it's that time of the year again! :D Yesterday the stage manager got together the props team to give the concept and the required props. Then she gave us the materials to start working and building the props. We had fun making them at the basement 2 carpark in church. A bit stuffy and "high" towards the end, because the ventilation wasn't that good and we all breathed in a lot of aerosol from the spray painting... Hopefully can finished up by this coming Sunday!

Duke Party (31 Oct '10)

Yesterday went to support my friends' office cat party. Yeaps, you heard it correctly, it was the office CAT's party. But not just any office cat, it's Duke! The turnout was very good, over 60 people. But I think too much crowd there, and Duke grew a bit "sian" after entertaining so may people's petting...Still, a good deed was done, as funds were raised for Cats' Spay day.

Last night went out to celebrate my friend's birthday over dinner at Waraku at Marina Square. Had a good time eating and joking and watching Eddie unwrapped his birthday 'hoot' from us. afterwards, we went over to MOF for desserts and stuff.

Beer at Akashabu (25 Oct '10)

Yesterday evening needed to get some stuff from Funan Digital Mall. Persuaded my friend to go with me. Reason is because I did too much manual work in the office yesterday, so needed a "Hotaru* moment", to just openly drink beer and sigh loudly in contentment^. We saw there was a beer promotion at Akashabu, so decided to head there for beer and some beer snacks. In the end, end up slightly tipsy but throughly relaxed after slowly drinking beer for 1 hour plus. Ahhh, truly the way to beat manual work is to down beer! :P

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen/ 精武风云－陈真 (2010)

The fighting is fast-paced and frenzied, but the story is a bit too mundane? (又是打倒日本鬼子?!) The initial fight scene has gotten me thinking the Chen Zhen character is just like Kratos; all he needs is to chain his daggers together, he can be another God of War, outrunning bullets and jumping 3-4 meters off the ground. :P Too much CGI, makes the already incredible fighting action more incredulous than it is.

Certain parts of the film is good, and the inspector character surprisingly delivers humor at the right places. And Shu Qi is still smokily hot (even at her age). Still, you can't but get the feeling this is another "Let put Donnie Yen as the lead and milk it rich at the theatre" vehicle.
