Lord I'm amazed by you - Desperation Band

Sang this during morning devotions. May this bless you too!

You dance over me
While I am unaware
You sing all around
But I never hear the sound

Lord I’m amazed by You
Lord I’m amazed by You
Lord I’m amazed by You
How You love me

How wide
How deep
How great
Is Your love for me

Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen/ 精武风云-陈真 (2010)

Rating:★★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Action & Adventure
The fighting is fast-paced and frenzied, but the story is a bit too mundane? (又是打倒日本鬼子?!) The initial fight scene has gotten me thinking the Chen Zhen character is just like Kratos; all he needs is to chain his daggers together, he can be another God of War, outrunning bullets and jumping 3-4 meters off the ground. :P Too much CGI, makes the already incredible fighting action more incredulous than it is.

Certain parts of the film is good, and the inspector character surprisingly delivers humor at the right places. And Shu Qi is still smokily hot (even at her age). Still, you can't but get the feeling this is another "Let put Donnie Yen as the lead and milk it rich at the theatre" vehicle.

Cycling to the waterfront (26 Sep '10)

Sunday decided to take a ride on my bicycle after church and lunch, as needed to get some exercise. Haven't been jogging or swimming in a while, and can feel the magical love handles growing larger. Wanted to ride to Sembawang Park, but the weather really looked ominous. In the end, just did a quick ride to Waterfront again. Decided to take some pics of my beloved neighbourhood. Enjoy Marsiling, where it's so' ulu' 'the birds don't lay eggs!' XD

Dinner at Wendy's (24 Sep '10)

Last night went to Borders@Wheellock to buy a much-coveted magazine. After that, still had time before cell group to go grab a quick bite. Remembering my vows to go back to Wendy's and try the beef chilli anf fries, i did just that. The beef chilli was slightly above average, very beany and mexicany. The fries were a bit flat, but still went well with the chilli. On the whole, a much better experience than my first try at Wendy's.

Mom's Singing Competition (19 Sep '10)

Mom hadn't joined a singing competition for almost 6 years already, so yesterday was her 1st "重出江湖" perforamance. Xd There was limited tickets so only my dad and sis went down. Do't think she won anything, but I hope she enjoyed herself at least. XD

Wedding of Teck-Ean and Joey (18 Sep '10)

Went to Marina bay Sands for the first time for a wedding dinner. The bride, Joey, was a great ex-colleague who tolerated my jokes and nonsense at my very first workplace. XD Great catching up with long-lost friends and ex-colleagues. The meal was good, and the company was great! Congratulations to the newly wedded couple!

Day out at ECP (17 Sep '10)

Weather was pretty gloomy and overcast on Friday, and it even rained very heavily for a while even. But a gang of fearless/faithful set out from the office anyway, to try to enjoy the beach. Though no sun, it was still enjoyable, given the string winds - no sweat! IN the end, we just went cycling ,as it's the 2nd easiest thing to do*. After that, some of us went to a restaurant recommended by one of us. Oysters at $1 a piece, oiishi! Sorry, no pics of the oysters, as they went down our stomach too fast~ |P

on waiting

My friend, Eddie shared a really good message during staff devotions this morning. He later sent us some writings to further our thinking on the subject of waiting. Here's sharing them with you all:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lamentations 3 (New International Version)

 24 I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him."

25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
       to the one who seeks him;

26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those That Wait

I waited, waited for YHWH; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. Psalm 40:2 (Hebrew Text)

Waited – Soon we will all have additional opportunities to wait.  Try seeing a doctor next year.  Of course, our cultural framework for waiting isn’t the same as waiting in David’s Hebrew view.  If we read our own temporal expectations into this verse (and others), we are likely to misunderstand what David says, and in the process, miss the blessing of waiting.

The Hebrew verb here is qawah.  Look at Job 3:9 or Micah 5:7 or Isaiah 59:11 or Lamentations 3:25.  Suddenly you realize that “waiting” is a very active process.  This is really a word about hope.  It is laced with dependence, ordered activities, trust in the Lord and eschatological perspectives.  We can wait – and wait – because we know that God’s will cannot be thwarted.  Qawah is anchored in sovereignty and rests on hesed.  God acts when we wait.

Don’t get confused about the order.  It is not reversed.  It is not “We act when God waits.”  There is a good reason why the very first action of Man after his creation on the sixth day was rest.  We wait first!  We might love Him because He first loved us, but when it comes to hope, our behavior precedes God’s.  We wait.

A bit of personal reflection will easily convince you that waiting is not a natural state of human behavior.  Try sitting at a stop light for more than five minutes.  Try standing in line at the check–out counter for ten minutes.  Try clicking on an Internet page and seeing the little rotating circle for more than 30 seconds.  Text messaging has destroyed the concept of “wait.”  From sex to success, wait is a four letter word.

But not in the Bible.  Waiting is a blessed behavior.  Waiting displays confident expectation.  Waiting is what I do when God is on the loose.  Look at the pictograph.  Qof-Vav-Hey is “what comes from securing what is behind.”  Ah, but you will say, “How can this help me have any idea about waiting.  I thought waiting was about hope.  Hope is about the future, not about what is behind me in the past.”  Yes, that’s certainly true – if you are Greek.  But if you are Hebrew, the future is “behind” you.  You are in the row boat, your back to the direction you wish to travel, looking at where you have already been.  You future is behind you.  Your hope is what you cannot see.  But your true line of travel comes from alignment with the past, what you can see, where you have already been.  If you want to wait on the Lord, you must keep rowing in alignment with His past actions.  Waiting is not floating.  It is rowing.  So, sit down and row.  Be active in your waiting.  Secure what lies behind you by putting your oars in the water in line with God’s wake.  Oh, yes.  And do it more than once.  “I waited, waited for YHWH.”

Dinner at Fat Fish (03 Sep '10)

Tonight went to Fat Fish to celebrate my brother's actual birthday. First time bringing my family there. At first my parents hum and haw a bit, because have to walk up slope lah, this la that la. In the end, they enjoyed the food also. We the children just ate and joked away. Yeaps, each family got its unique way of bonding XD

Blessed birthday, David! May your fixation on 2-D girls be transferred to real-life 3D girls soon :D
