Last Sunday went to run the 10km Men's Open section for the Singapore Bay Run (SBR). It's been over a decade since I last took part in any mass run. Went at the behest of a friend in office, who actually wanted to "jio" me for the 21km half-marathon. XD For a person that detests running, that's like asking for my life. I compromised a bit, and joined the 10km run instead. Thankfully, my RT session prepared me a bit for the run, so I did not join this run without training.
My brother also joined with his office friends, so we set out together that morning. We woke up at 5am on a Sunday morning, and went downtown via MRT. On the way, we spotted many of the SBR participants. Some were really "ga rung", and put on number tag and everything. Most were like us, sleepy-faced and yawning.
When the run started, I got separated from my brother and his friends. So I just went on my own way. The beginning part was kinda nightmarish, with people all around me crowding my way. I think I picked up my pace too fast during the first 30 minutes of my run. Think ran about 5plus km, then I stopped for a breather. After that, ran again for another 10 minutes plus, before "punctured out" at the 7km mark. Walk the remaining 3km plus back across the finishing line.
Surprise, surprise, I managed to cross the finishing line within my expected finish time ( which is 70 minutes, plus or minus 10 minute :p) Am glad to have done the race, but it'll be a while before I start yo join in mass runs again. Told mr friends in office if the thought of joining a race ever cross my mind again, will use the medal they gave me to hit myself silly on the head. :D
P.S. realised part of my story got truncated. Here's the full story. Hope it gets published :P
