on catching movies alone, chick flicks and action flicks...

argh, wrote this entry a couple of days back, but din managed to save it down. Was too disgusted to re-write it immediately at that time. Then realized hadn't updated my blog recently. so here goes, again.

The previous sunday wanted to catch the japanese film "Be with you". Has been postponing it for a while, because din want to spend $9.50 on weekend cinema ticket charges. Burt after 2 weeks of having no chance to watch the show during the weekdays, finally decided to catch it on a sunday. So told my lunch "kakis" after church I'm gonna catch the show. So the 2 friends I was talking (a guy and a gal) to asked me what show I was gonna catch, was it gonna be "War of the worlds", or "Batman: Begins". So I told them no, it's gonna be "Be with you".

So the gal gave me the response, " waaaa, so which ger you gonna watch it with?" with eyes blinking. i.e. "Which gal you interetsed in you trying to date out with this show, huh, HUH?"  so i told her, no, i'm just gonna catch it alone. Upon which, the guy goes" HUH! you "seow" ah?! why you wanna catch a chick flick aLoNe?!?!" with his eyebrows waggling* i.e. "You sick ah, watching girly show? or worse, you GaY ah??"

well, the truth is, I love catching movies in the big theater, be it in a group or by myself. I mean, you can't really interact with others much during watching a movie*, you'll just be glued in your seat, eyes glued to the screen in front of you watching the story unfolds. Plus point is that after the film, if there is time, you can discuss the film there and then with your friends while it's fresh in your minds. but sometimes it just too much hassle for me to go organize a movie trip, gotta gather the people la, find out how many tickets to get la, then think about what to do after the movie la. Sometimes you just wanna have the special forces mind-set, "fast-in-fast-out" i.e. watch the show, and go back home and rest.

I guess that applies to most other activities. And even when you are one person alone, you might not feel loneliness, depending on the activity you are doing.

anyway, you guys know my reaction over "Be with you". Found it to be totally worth the $$$ spent. in fact, so taken that I went to buy the OST (Original Sound Track) cd, just to re-live the film. Yea, then, just to be balanced, went to catch a action flick "Fantastic Four". It was not a bad film, entertaining and average. But my thirst for sentimentality cannot be fulfilled.   Then i checked the papers and realized there's another Japanese "weepie" in town. "Crying out love in the centre of the world". With a title like that, how much LESS wimpy can you get?  and I was pretty impressed by the cast the film had, cos' I saw a number of them before in other J-pop films and drama serials. Buoyed on top by the good experience of "Be with you", I decided to go for it...

and it was a total let-down! the strong cast was let down by a weak script. and some of the twists are just SSSOOOOOOO cliche. I enjoyed certain aspects and portions of the films.and the actresses were really beautiful.  but it got a bit draggy towards the end...

anyway, should cut down on going to movies in the near future. or maybe i should consider working in a cinema, dat way i can kill 2 birds with 1 stone....

* come to think of it, it seems like he gave me the Blue Steel look from "Zoolander"...

** realize have to qualify that statement, cos' a lot of couples to go to movies to spend "quality" time" with each other... ;p
