on the Golden City

Heard this song over PLR, an online internet radio. Apparently quite an old song (1998), but still kinda catchy.

The Golden City

[ capo 2 ]

Em                       D                             Am2/C

Soon your trials will be over,

Em                D                                  Am2/C

Offered up by mercy's hand;

C                   D                                                       G/B

Let Him heal you where you're standing,

C                          Em                       D

A doorway to another land

The sweetest welcome from the Father,
Gathered up and carried home,
We have come to this time of waiting,
Come let us bow before Your throne

                   Em                                            G                        D                           D

We will meet in the golden city, in the new Jerusalem

                  C                                      D                                     Em

All our pain and all our tears will be no more.

                    Em                                                      G                                         D                          D

We will stand with the hosts of heaven and cry, "Holy is the Lamb",

                   C                               D                                    Em

We will worship and adore You evermore

Never can the powers of darkness,
Neither death nor even life
Let nothing ever separate us,
From the holy love of God

Well, while looking for this song, came across another song about a golden city:

Hail the Glorious Golden City

(by Felix Adler, 1878)

Hail the glorious golden city, pictured by the seers of old!
Everlasting light shines o'er it, wondrous tales of it are told:
Only righteous men and women dwell within its gleaming wall;
Wrong is banished from its borders, justice reigns supreme o'er all.

We are builders of that city, all our joys and all our groans
Help to rear its shining ramparts; all our lives are building stones:
Whether humble or exalted, all are called to ask divine;
All must aid alike to carry forward one sublime design.

And the work that we have builded, oft with bleeding hands and tears,
Oft in error, oft in anguish, will not perish with our years:
It will live and shine transfigured, in the final reign of right;
It will pass into the splendors of the city of the light.

Was wondering what's with the fixation about a city of gold, then remembered it's talking about the New Jerusalem in the book of Revelations, Chapter 21. so there!
