on throwing mandarin oranges on Zhup Gor Meh

haha, today is the fifteenth day of the Chinese Lunar New Year. It is the official last day of celebration by tradition, and most reckoned to be the day of Chinese Valentine's Day. So just now, on the way back, my colleague asked me what was my plan for tonight. I said go home accompany mother la.  She said, "Sure or not? Never go to lakeside and throw mandarin orange ah?" Made me blur a while. Then she explained to me apparently it's an obscure Chinese custom, along the lines of what I will term weird courting rituals of the ancient days. That piqued my interest. So I turn to my great Answer to the Everything* and typed in Chinese to search for  plausible reasons. It came back with the following results:

(Eh the above link didn't give the full picture clearly so I tried again.)

(eh, this link was a "wall of text" reply. But the answer wasn't very "satisfying" too)

Finally, I searched in English and voila!~ this is the perfect answer (and local some more!)
