on having a great time off last Friday...

in appreciation of our hard work as the organising committee for an even at work, the "president"* of the committee managed to get us an afternoon off last Friday. On top of that, he invited us to his place for a barbecue. We had a mix of American and Asian foodstuff. The guys got to leave office at 12 noon to go and do shopping, as well as get the foodstuff that we ordered from online. Haha, I never thought I said this, but its fun shopping at the supermarket, even if it's with 2 other grown men... :p

We went to the venue, which is at a nice little condominium corner in the East. We ate more food upon arrival, cause the hostess' salad was absolutely delicious and fit for a king~ Then had time to chill and rest for a while before going to start the BBQ fire. This was the first time i used charcoal briquettes to start a BBQ fire. According to my colleagues, these kind of fuel is better cos it's more hygienic in the burning process, and gives off less soot. Well, whatever it is, it's still charcoal, and we got our hands dirty while starting the fire. The weather looked as  if it was about to rain, but we prayed to God that He'll let us have a good evening for BBQ instead. And He did :D The rainclouds were sped on their way farther out, but it still wasn't easy to start the BBQ.

After the fire was started, we started to cook our food in earnest. There were 2 pits, and I took care of 1 pit, cooking the otah, the satay and the sting rays. The other pit was taken care of by "Mr. President" who was cooking generous slabs of beef for the 10 of us. Think the Americans have a different idea of "barbecue" from us. For them, as long as they have beef  and corn, that's a BBQ enough for them. For us Singaporeans, we must have our bee hoon, chicken wings and satay. :D Well, as with most BBQs, we had too much food prepared. That was why I volunteered to do the coking, so that the eating can be left to others :p But i must take my hat off to "Mr. President". He just used salt to season the beef^, and it tasted fabulous~ Must learn how to cook from him liao...

We ended the BBQ by 7pm, because we had been cooking and eating for 2 and a half hours since then. After that, me and another colleague hit the swimming pool to do some exercise**. After that, we had a wonderful shower and sauna at the men's changing room - we must have spent about 45 minutes in total, 'cos we went to the sauna room twice!

Well, we rejoined the rest of those who stayed for a round of Häagen-Dazs® ice cream. We had Rum Raisins, as well as Belgian Chocolate, topped with Hershey's syrup~ To end the wonderful meal, we looked through our hosts' (Mr President's and his wife's) pictures when they were younger. Man, I wanna go to Montana and visit the mountain ranges!

*well, his official title should be "chairman", but it's more fun for us to call him "Mr. President"... :p

^Initially he wanted to buy for us corn-fed beef, which costs about S$35 per chunk. But we told him to have mercy on our stomach, 'cause our Asian stomachs cannot really take all that red meat. :p He gave a succulent slab of medium-cooked meat, with a tiny region of pink meat at the centre, with fantastic marbling and chunky fat at the corner... man, my mouth's salivating even as I recall the taste... mmmmmmmm

** as well as to get rid of the grime and oil off our bodies... NOT! We're not so disgusting la. We did shower ourselves before going in to swim :p
